Saluting Our Sisters’ in October
This year’s October Black History Month theme is ‘Saluting Our Sisters’.
Here at ACS, we understand the importance of black history in Britain, and it has been an integral part of our mission from the very beginning. Our unwavering dedication to nurturing mutual respect among diverse cultures, genders, and faiths has consistently aimed to uplift and empower children.
Within the UK care system, it's no secret that black children are overrepresented. ACS is resolute in its efforts to attract and recruit foster parents from Black, Asian, Minority, and Ethnic communities. We do this to ensure that children have the opportunity to maintain a strong connection to their cultural heritage.
Back in 2012, ACS was born with a clear purpose: to place children and young people from diverse backgrounds with foster parents who truly understand their unique needs. This understanding can come from shared backgrounds or through the relevant training we provide. We believe that every child deserves a nurturing and culturally sensitive environment.
But, let's remember, the act of sharing history, fostering cultural connections, and presenting positive role models isn't confined to just one month. It's a year-round commitment that we embrace with open arms.
Take a moment to be inspired by Marva and Lionel Warmington's incredible fostering journey.
"The best thing is being able to support young people with complex needs and witnessing their self-esteem and confidence soar. It's also incredibly fulfilling to empower these young souls to achieve their true potential."
Join us this October as we come together to celebrate, learn, and grow, not just as a community but as a family. Together, we can make a difference and create a brighter future for all.
